How We Prepare Our Kittens for Their Forever Homes

Bringing home a new kitten is an exciting and emotional experience. At Pawz and Purz Maine Coons, we want every kitten to leave our home feeling confident, secure, and ready to become part of their new family.

Our kittens are raised in our home, not separately from everyday family life. From an early age, they become familiar with household sounds, people, other cats, gentle handling, playtime, and plenty of affection. This helps them learn that the world around them is a safe and welcoming place.

Socialization is about much more than simply holding a kitten. We spend time learning each kitten’s individual personality and gently encouraging them to explore new experiences at their own pace. Some kittens are naturally bold and adventurous, while others need a little more reassurance. We make sure each kitten receives the kind of attention they need.

As they grow, our kittens begin learning important routines. They are introduced to litter boxes, scratching posts, grooming, nail trims, carriers, and the foods they will be familiar with when they leave our home. These small experiences help make the transition into their new home much easier.

We also encourage healthy play with their littermates. Playing together helps kittens learn boundaries, communication, confidence, and appropriate social behaviour. Their mother also plays an important role in teaching them lessons that people simply cannot replace.

Before going home, each kitten receives veterinary care appropriate for their age, and their new family is provided with information to help them continue the routines they are already familiar with.

Leaving their mother, littermates, and the only home they have ever known is a big change. That is why we put so much care into preparing them beforehand. Our goal is not only to raise beautiful Maine Coons, but to raise loving, well-adjusted companions who are ready to build a lifelong bond with their new families.
